WTOP: Frustrations flare over proposed power lines

 “All of the families in our community will be affected,” resident Kristine Denholm told NBC Washington. “My home backs right up to what would be 230,000 volts of power.”

Many residents had questions about the project’s impact on the environment, as well as property values, through the area.

Dominion Virginia Power wants to run the high-voltage lines from Gainesville to Haymarket. The utility company says the lines would provide electricity for the growing region. However, local officials say the power lines are mostly for the benefit of one electricity customer. That customer, according to the The Washington Post, is Amazon.com.

The final decision on where the power lines are placed would be made by the State Corporation Commission, a Virginia regulatory agency.
