700 dialed in to Hugo-Ramadan telephone town hall

More than 700 citizens of the Gainesville-Haymarket-Rural Crescent area of northern Prince William County took part in a massive telephone town hall conference Thursday night February 5th to explore the possible impact of a new high-power electrical transmission line running through the area.  The conference call was sponsored by Delegate David Ramadan and Delegate Tim Hugo who represent the area in the Virginia General Assembly.

Both delegates endorsed the “hybrid I-66 route” if a 230kv power line is to be installed to a data center located across VA-55 from the WalMart just west of Haymarket.  Under this option, the power line would run 5.8 miles from near Manassas along the right-of-way of I-66, with about 2 miles of it buried as it runs through Haymarket to US 15.  The delegates also promised to help build public interest and support for this option and for protecting residents from devaluation of their properties that would be caused by a huge overhead power line.

The 700 callers in the telephone town hall brings to 2,700 the number of citizens who have actively demonstrated their concerns by participating in public rallies organized or supported by the Coalition to Protect Prince William County in recent days.
